A ‘Ribbon Microphone’ is a form of non-powered microphone, that uses a very thin metal ribbon between two strong magnets. When a sound wave displaces the metal ribbon, an electric signal is induced.

These microphones are typically bi-directional in nature and are often said to be slightly darker, and warmer than condenser (powered) or moving coil (dynamic) microphones.
