Polar Pattern

A Polar Pattern is the directional response of a microphone. It determines the sensitivity in 360 degrees around the central diaphragm.

Different microphones have different directional responses and are used for different applications. The most common polar patterns are cardioid, omnidirectional, bi-directional (figure-8), hyper cardioid, and super cardioid.

All of the additional polar patterns are built using 2 or more omni-directional diaphragms.
