Metering

‘Metering’ refers to how engineers monitor the audio levels of each channel in a project.

As the signals are constantly fluctuating, meters use averaging in addition to peak measurements to smooth out the meter. Meters can use a variety of different units, but the most common measurement unit is in dB (or dBV in analog consoles).
